Best Christmas TV Adverts 2023
It’s the most wonderful time of the year. Christmas TV advert time! Nothing says the festive giving season quite like gathering around the television set to watch some TV adverts to fuel our rampant consumerism. This year after a lot of turbulence and price hikes we’re all thinking carefully about where we spend our money, so choosing the best Christmas adverts this year might just decide where you get your sprouts from.
Here are some of our favourites from this year’s Christmas adverts, for your viewing pleasure.
Boots Christmas Advert 2023
Boots have been nailing the Christmas ads for a few years now, and this years’ effort is no different. A young girl asks her mum who gives Santa presents, and before long the mother-daughter duo are on an overseas trip to the North Pole to treat the big man himself.
Along the way, they pass out a variety of perfectly thought out gifts to all the people they meet along the way. There’s anti-aging serum for a wizened tow truck driver, a soapy gift set for an explorer who could do with a shower, and finally flight socks for Father Christmas himself. A lovely, tongue-in-cheek way to show off the full Boots range and remind us of the spirit of Christmas.
ALDI Christmas Advert 2023
Starring the fan-favourite character Kevin the Carrot, this year’s Aldi Christmas ad is a spoof of Willy Wonka (timely, with the new film almost out). In the budget supermarket’s version, the head of the factory is William Conker, his minions are Plumpty Dumptys, and all the characters are played by caricatures of various Christmas side dishes.
It’s a wholesome, whimsical Christmas ad that really gets you in the spirit of the season. In the end, Kevin the Carrot understands the true meaning of Christmas (spreading joy and sharing what we have, of course), and ends up getting the ‘cheese to the factory’. Incredible stuff.
LIDL Christmas Advert 2023
Admittedly, Lidl’s Christmas advert this year doesn’t make that much sense if you think about it – since when do we have raccoons roaming the streets and nipping in and out of British doggie doors? However, if you squint a bit, it’s a quintessential Christmas ad classic complete with cute animals, a charming child and a giving message.
In the ad, a raccoon notices a young boy’s monkey soft toy get left behind, and goes on an epic quest to return him to his rightful place beneath the Christmas tree. Long story short, the raccoon and the family’s dog become best friends and share a picnic. We told you it didn’t make sense…
Waitrose Christmas Advert 2023
Waitrose has pulled out all the stops for their Christmas TV ad this year – I mean, Graham Norton, golden salmon, and Depeche Mode’s I Just Can’t Get Enough in the background? Now that’s a party!
The colourful advert shows off all the many treats and delights in the high-end supermarket’s Christmas range. We watch as bejewelled and oh-so fashionable partygoers – including some gatecrashing policemen – make their way through starters, mains and dessert. If ever there’s a time of year to treat yourself to some Waitrose snacks, it’s Christmas, after all.
Amazon Christmas Advert 2023
We wouldn’t have put our money on Team Jeff Bezos pulling out all the sentimental stops this year, but then again our hard earned wages would probably just go to Amazon anyway…
This year’s Amazon Christmas ad features three cute old ladies, wistfully watching the children sled up and down a steep hill. One of them has a bright idea and orders some cushions from the Amazon app, and before you can say “Prime Delivery” they’re whizzing down the slopes just like when they were little girls themselves.
John Lewis Christmas Advert 2023
Ok, we’ll admit this isn’t quite up there with ‘the best of 2023 Christmas ads’. It’s lacking a certain something, and we don’t think it quite measures up to the grand tradition of John Lewis Christmas ads.
However, it’s not quite the giving season without a bit of John Lewis, so we had to include it just in case it floats your Christmas boat. It seems to be a strange parody of Little Shop of Horrors, with a dancing, ever-growing Venus Fly Trap star of the show.
