Warburtons TV Adverts
Warburtons is one of Britain’s most beloved household names, providing us with all kinds of baked goods – really, they’re the best thing since sliced bread.
As well as excellent crumpets, Warburtons has given us some wonderful TV adverts over the years. With so much competition in the world of sandwich bread, English muffins and toastable pancakes, Warburton’s TV adverts had to step things up a little.
Over the years, Warburtons had made some classic, almost run-of-the-mill adverts. But really, there’s only so many different ways bread companies can make adverts to stand out from the crowd. And so in recent years, Jonathan Warburton and his merry marketing team turned to some familiar faces. The brand also found a formula that works for them – each of the following adverts all start with Mr Warburton in his office as his secretary introduces him to an unexpected guest.
Here are some of the most recent Warburton’s TV adverts that you might have spotted on your screen:
Pride & Breadjudice
Starting off with arguably the most A-list of all the Warburtons TV ad guests – Peter Kay. The Phoenix Nights star strolls into the Warburtons head office to tell Jonathan Warburton about his million dollar idea – a steamy ‘loaf’ story about how old Mr Warburton met his future wife.
A spoof of a period drama, the bakery advert shows us how ‘Ellen’ falls in love with Thomas Warburton. Through their many trials and tribulations, the pair eventually end up together and happily ever after. Not before two exquisite throwbacks to Kay’s classic works though – including a nod to classic ‘Ave It beer advert from John Smith’s and a perfect reference to garlic bread.
Giant Crumpets
This beloved advert starts with Mr Jonathan Warburton himself sat at his desk with some important-looking papers, when he’s interrupted by a visit from ‘Mr The Frog’. This uninvited guest turns out to be none other than Kermit himself, who soon shows us an exciting new version of The Muppet Show – called The Giant Crumpet Show – starring all his famous friends.
This advert has a bit of everything. Pun-tastic lyrics that play on the original words to The Muppet Show theme (“it’s time to grab the toaster, it’s time to take a bite”), a lively production, and appearances from icons including Animal, Miss Piggy and Fozzie Bear doing bakery-inspired stand up.
GoodBagels
With a slightly more ominous tone than the other adverts (that are – let’s face it – as fluffy as a Warburtons crumpet), this advert stars a bona fide legend.
Jonathan Warburton is accosted by none other than Robert De Niro in this Goodfellas parody, in which De Niro menacingly lays out a plot to take over the Bolton-based Warburtons empire. With lots of references to classic mafia movies, we see how De Niro and his henchmen plan to take everything Warburton has built for their own.
The Deliverers
Taking a slightly different format, in this TV advert Mr Warburton is instead phoned up by his celebrity collaborator. This time it’s the turn of Rocky himself, Sylvester Stallone, who has been inspired by Warburtons nationwide delivery of fresh bread to dream up an action-packed Hollywood movie.
We watch as Stallone plays the part of a Warburtons delivery driver, making his way through gridlocked traffic and powering through early morning starts to make sure our supermarket shelves are stocked with fresh bread for our sandwiches.
Mad About the Bread
The new Warburtons advert 2023 edition stars Hollywood legend Samuel L Jackson, though this one has a bit of a twist. This time, Jackson himself is introduced as Jonathan Warburton.
The award-winning actor goes on to explain that he’s simply playing Mr Warburton for the advert, and then launches into a Pulp Fiction-inspired parody speech on why there’s simply no substitute for a real Warburtons Toastie loaf.
