Best Three TV Adverts
Three has always seemed like the fun, slightly odd, younger sibling to phone networks like Vodafone and O2. While they’ve been around long enough now to offer pretty reliable service, they’re also known for creating some pretty funny adverts.
We’ve rounded up some of the very best Three TV adverts, including 2022’s Gravlax advert, the iconic mini pony, and more…
Awww, 2023
These days, let’s face it, we’re all on our phones all the time. Like, all the time. Obviously that’s already pretty good news for Three, but their 2023 advert reminds us that there’s actually a lot of good stuff on our phones (in addition to TikTok and Candy Crush…)
This year’s Three advert asks every viewer to ‘live your best phone life’, since we all apparently spend a third of our lives glued to the little screen. The ad shows a grandma spending all her time – whether at dinner or with friends – gazing into her phone, before we realise she was cooing at videos of her grandkids. Cute, but also kind of rude…
Gravlax, 2022
The year prior, Three also went for a message in their advert. 2022’s Three advert featured a very nervous young man meeting his girlfriend’s parents for the first time. The setting is a very fancy restaurant, her parents are very unimpressed, and the menu is very confusing.
However, the young man has his phone contract with Three, so he can surreptitiously pop on to Google to search for “what is gravlax” and confidently order smoked salmon to impress the future in-laws.
Everywhere, 2013
Arguably one of the most famous Three adverts, Wieden + Kennedy’s Everywhere ad campaign launched the phone network as a household name. The advert was designed to showcase Three as an internet-savvy network, creating the kind of content people love to send over social media. Enter the mystical, moonwalking Shetland pony, of course.
The ad was a huge success, generating 1.5 million views on Youtube over just the first weekend after it was released, including thousands of shares and mentions on social media.
Jellyfish, 2007
Three was a network designed to be used on the internet, and has always marketed itself as a company made for social media. So, this jellyfish advert’s tagline, “we like sharing”, couldn’t be more apt. Plus, this was back in 2007, so you could argue that this phone ad – starring cowboys who dance with a drunk jellyfish – was ahead of its time.
Three’s advert stars two cowboys stumble upon a huge, beached jellyfish in the desert. Happens to the best of us. They transport their cargo back to the city, and before long are sharing a beer with the invertebrate. Soon it’s dancing and seemingly flashing like a giant disco light, like all octopuses do.
Go Roam, 2017
Three’s flagship data roaming service was an exciting offering in 2017, when jetting off on holidays to the sun was truly all the rage. With so much trepidation around exorbitant costs for using your phone abroad, the advert emphasised how easy it was to switch to data roaming to upload all your holiday snaps straight to Instagram.
Set to Shoop by Salt-n-Pepa, this iconic Three advert starts out with a young, timid giraffe struggling to find its feet. The animal is soon transformed into a strutting ‘Giraffe-amingo’ hybrid creature that can fly like a flamingo and strut like… well, a Giraffe that’s maintaining a Snap Streak from the beach, of course.
